Frequently Asked Questions about GIS, WebGIS, QGIS and Python
Find answers to the most common questions about our services and geospatial technologies.
Who builds professional QGIS plugins in Italy?
SinoCloud, led by Sarino Alfonso Grande, specializes in developing custom QGIS plugins for Italian public bodies and companies. We have several publications on the official QGIS repository.
How much does it cost to develop a QGIS plugin?
The cost varies depending on the complexity of the workflow to automate and the interfaces required. Projects range from small scripts costing a few hundred euros to complex enterprise plugins. We always provide a free quote.
How much does it cost to build a WebGIS?
Again, it depends on the amount of data (layers) and the features required (e.g. search modules, PDF printing, database queries). Since we work with Open Source technologies, licensing costs are eliminated; you only pay for development and hosting.
Does SinoCloud only work in Calabria?
No. Although our physical office is based in Calabria (Province of Cosenza), we provide consulting, software development and training to clients throughout Italy via video conferencing and remote support.
Does SinoCloud work with surveyors and engineers?
Yes. Most of our GIS clients are surveyors, engineers, architects and geologists who need advanced support for processing topographic and hydrogeological data, as well as for interfacing with Public Administration systems.
Is it possible to create a self-hosted WebGIS?
Absolutely. For municipalities or companies that handle sensitive data (and who do not want or cannot use the Cloud), we install and configure WebGIS systems directly on their internal servers.
What is the difference between desktop GIS and WebGIS?
Desktop GIS (e.g. QGIS) is a professional tool installed on a PC, used to create, edit and analyze complex data. WebGIS is a platform accessible from a standard browser (such as Chrome), designed for simple consultation and public sharing of data, without needing to install anything.
Do you create seismic or hydrogeological risk maps?
Yes. We develop WebGIS platforms and thematic maps for territorial risk monitoring: seismic hazard maps, hydrogeological instability and hydraulic invariance, using updated data from official sources such as INGV and PAI cartography, designed for geologists, engineers and territory professionals.
Do you build WebGIS solutions for municipalities and public administration?
Yes, this is one of our core areas. We build WebGIS solutions for municipalities and public bodies: road cadastre, public lighting management, pest control and territory digitalization, including within PNRR-funded projects.
Do you carry out drone surveys for photogrammetry and territory monitoring?
Yes. We carry out drone surveys for photogrammetry, orthophotos, 3D models and point clouds, as well as AI-based inspections for monitoring photovoltaic plants and infrastructure across the territory.
